Bettie’s Beautiful Baby Shower

Screen Shot 2013-09-17 at 4.27.16 PMHey Ya’ll,

I’ve designed baby showers in the past and been involved in the planning of them for clients, but when you are one of the chosen hosts for a baby shower for a dear friend, it is a completely different story!

Bettie and I at my Birthday party a couple weeks ago.

My friend Elisabeth Stassen or Bettie, as I affectionately call her, is due any day now, so myself along with five of her good friends combined forces to create the perfect baby shower for her.

Screen Shot 2013-09-17 at 4.36.13 PMWe met, created a game plan that utilized all of our different skill sets, and then divided and conquered to make sure that each detail came together on the day of the event.

Screen Shot 2013-09-17 at 4.51.02 PMFor the decor, we stuck mostly to classic neutral colors. Think: ivory, khaki, pink, light green and light blue!

The event’s color palette was inspired by the invitations that we found on Etsy. We used these colors in and outside of Bettie’s home for the flowers, table linens, party favors, cups, napkins, and even the food.

I of course, was in charge of the cake, a therapeutic challenge that I always enjoy taking on.
Screen Shot 2013-09-18 at 10.37.05 AMI used my new cake pans to create a layered white, Funfetti cake (my signature flavor!) and topped it off with some playful white and pink frosting and sprinkles!

Friday Favorites: Red, White, and Blue – Memorial Day Edition!

Hey Ya’ll,

Since Monday is Memorial Day, I figured today’s ‘Friday Fav’ post should be all about Red, White, and Blue!

First off, I am loving all of the cute, DIY tissue paper projects I’ve been seeing all over Pinterest as of late:
Here are few other crafty ideas that caught my eye for Memorial Day weekend or Fourth of July:

And what holiday would be complete without delicious eats and treats!

Here’s a Southwest Sloppy Joes recipe from Snackpicks.com, that I highly recommend trying your hand at this weekend:

Ingredients:
1 lb lean ground beef
1 medium onion sliced or chopped
1 small clove garlic minced or 1/4 tsp garlic powder
2 cups Kellogg’s® Rice Krispies® cereal
2 tsp chili powder
2 tsp salt
1/8 tsp pepper
1 can (19 oz) whole tomatoes undrained
1 can (5.5 oz) tomato paste
8 hamburger buns

Directions
1.    In large skillet over medium heat, cook ground beef, onion and garlic, until meat is browned, stirring frequently.
2.    Add cereal, seasonings, tomatoes with juice, and tomato paste. Stir to combine, cutting tomatoes into pieces with spoon. Cover and simmer over low heat about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally. Serve on toasted buns.

And here’s a fabulous red, white and blue sangria via Recipe Girl:

Ingredients:
2 bottles dry white wine (try Sauvignon Blanc)
1 cup triple sec
1/2 cup berry-flavored vodka
1/2 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice
1/2 cup simple syrup (see tips below)
1 cup blueberries
1 1/2 cups hulled and sliced strawberries
1 cup raspberries
1 1/2 cups pineapple chunks

Directions:
Combine all ingredients in a large punch bowl or pitcher and stir well. Cover and refrigerate at least 4 hours. Serve well-chilled with a good scoop of fruit floating in each drink, or serve over ice.

Tips:
*To make 1/2 cup simple syrup, boil 1/2 cup water and add 1/2 cup granulated white sugar. Turn heat to simmer and stir until dissolved. Turn off the heat and let cool. Now it’s simple syrup!
*Use fresh fruit for this recipe. Frozen just won’t be great.
*To make star-shaped pineapple pieces, cut long & wide pieces of pineapple off the side of the fresh fruit. use a star cutter to cut shapes.

And for dessert, try this easy recipe from Fancy Frugal Living!

Ingredients:
1 Pint of Strawberries
1 Pint of Blueberries
1 Loaf of Pound Cake (Cut out star shapes using a cookie cutter)
1 can of Whipped Cream
