Last Monday morning came very early as my YourBash! partner Jaime Geffen and I began to load all of our design elements for The 2013 Knot Gala in to the New York Public Library. If you have not been, it is a stunning historic building and many of you may remember it from Sex and the City, the movie during the scene where Carrie Bradshaw almost married Mr. Big.
These mannequins became giant, 12′ tall brides wearing dresses that I designed using leather, upholstery fabric, and sheet drape material to create towering brides at the library’s entrance and flanking the stage inside.
The talented Anna Fearer of More Paper Than Shoes created giant paper flower bouquets for the mannequins to finish off the brides polished look. Above is a before shot of Anna Fearer’s hotel room where her team assembled the bouquets and below are a few individual shots of each mannequin.
A giant video wall went up and five different bands did their sound checks (Hank Lane Music provided the entertainment – see below for details), all while thousands of flowers were arranged by famed floral designer David Beahm and his team.
Lights by the truckload were installed by Fusion Lighting, and stunning furniture vignettes from Taylor Creative and Luxe Event Rentals were positioned around the library.Incredible linens from La Tavola were the finishing touch on all the tables and by 7pm the doors were ready to open and guests made their way into the library for a full fledged party. I brought my mother as my date and enjoyed hanging out with some friends that ya’ll should recognize from my blog, including: Annie Lee of Daughter of Design, Urvi Tejani of Tejani Jewelry, and of course the one and only Ceci Johnson of Ceci New York! For those of you who saw my sneak peek post and were wondering how her invitations for the gala turned out, here they are in all their glory:Click HERE to watch Ceci’s very first Instagram video showcasing the invitation and her stunning design.
And check out this lovely dish by Abigail Kirsch Catering, who built out their own kitchen and started cooking bright and early! Click HERE to read my recent post about this fantastic NYC-based catering company and snag their yummy fall cocktail recipe!
And as promised, Hank Lane Music Productions did not dissapoint with a fantastic line-up of five different bands that played throughout the night. They kept everyone on the dance floor all night long! Guests also enjoyed making their own slow-motion movies courtesy of the I Do Films video booth and were able to take home instant photos from the Tap Snap photo booth. By the end of the night, it was obvious that we had all created a truly extraordinary event. A big thank you again, to all of the vendors and people that helped make this year’s gala a success. I am very proud of the design and enjoyed the entire process from beginning to end.
